Fix for Dell Inspiron 15R 5537 Hibernate and Sleep Wake Restart Issue

So I have had a Dell Inspiron 15R 5537 for quite a while. It is a beast of a machine and you can read my review for Dell Inspiron 15R 5537 here

Since day 1 of owning this laptop, I had been observing that whenever I hibernate or put my laptop to sleep and try to wake it by hitting the power button, it pretty much does a restart and at times, I get a Blue Screen of Death with an error code video_dxgkrnl_fatal_error. There really haven’t been too many articles for Fix for Dell Inspiron 15R 5537 Hibernate and Sleep Wake Restart Issue

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Dell Inspiron 5537 drivers from dell.com Website, refreshed and reset my Windows 8.1 and even go for a complete format and OS Reinstall. None of them seemed to have solved my problem

The problem I identified was that when I disable the AMD Graphics from the Manage Computer snap-in, I was able to Hibernate or Sleep and wake without any issues. However, with that, I lose the whole point of having 2GB of dedicated AMD graphics on my laptop and the fact that I could not change the screen brightness.

I have finally found a set of steps which seemed to have worked flawlessly for me.

  1. Uninstall the drivers using the AMD CleanUp Utility
  2. Restart the laptop.
  3. Install Driver Chipset. Do not restart the laptop here.
  4. Install Driver Intel Video card drivers. Windows 8.1 will complain that you already have newer drivers. Just overwrite the drivers and install the ones you just downloaded.
  5. Restart the laptop.
  6. Install the driver from AMD Video card drivers.
  7. Restart the laptop

I am sure this will solve the Windows 8.1 Hibernate or Sleep Wake up issue that you might be facing. Please feel free to drop by any comments and let us all know whether this fix worked for you or not
